We had just come from Tavira where we stayed at another Pestana property, which was GORGEOUS and the food was extraordinary, so when we needed a place to stay over on our way back to Lisbon, we were delighted to know there was the Castelo de Alcácer do Sal.
The employees were all exemplary in giving information and being helpful. And, our waiter that evening at the hotel for dinner was lovely. But, the food was truly not good. I ordered a 'shrimp pesto pasta' that had literally no pesto on it. It was dry pasta with shrimp on it. I had to use the oil and garlic from our olive dish and salt from the table to create an edible meal. My husband had the rice and bacalhau fritters. The rice was tasteless and the fritters were quite greasy.
Otherwise, the actual building was beautiful with lovely stairways and beautiful details, but they really should work on their menu and food at the hotel. Especially during the winter months when they know that all the restaurants in the town are closed for vacation.
