“very good hotel for a good price”
Good
“very good value”
the Mercure Napoli Garibaldi is a very good hotel, very near to the train station. The neighbourhood of piazza garibaldi is not great, but the hotel was excellent, the breakfast was exceptional, and the staff al very helpful. woud definitely stay there again. there is a small restaurant a street away caled Da Peppino which ghas amazing food, very very cheap.
“Nice hotel, in dodgy area of Naples”
The hotel was clean and comfortable, with a good continental breakfast, however the hotel was situated in a rough area of Naples and had we walked back to it in the dark, would not have felt safe. It is however a 5 mins walk to the station so very convenient if you want to stay there on arriving or leaving Naples as we did.
“If ever I'm on a short break in the area again- I'd definately use this hotel again.”
Whilst situated in a bit of a dingy back street, (we arrived by train after 10pm after a longish journey from the UK by plane - and train from Rome...so perhaps being a bit critical!), we really liked the hotel. Spotlessly clean, nice quiet room (no traffic noise and pretty good internal noise insulation), freindly helpful staff, Italian Footty on TV (Sorry that's sad!), SOOO convenient for what we wanted. Would recommend to anyone wanting a very good value for money, basic, clean hotel providing they are are independent- minded enough to want to save a fortune and use the public transport and no be utterly spoon-fed!! Oh, for those that really worry about these things....the room card had a bit of a wobbler a couple of times and needed to be re-programmed! Big Deal? Nah. Good pplace.
“Crazy City”
The train station was very near to this hotel. The hotel provided a free shuttle van to their other hotel at several times in the evening, so visitors could visit other parts of the city. The traffic is crazy in Naples. Keep in mind that if you want to cross the street, you will have to walk out in front of traffic because they will not stop for you unless you do. Be careful. We arrived a day early, and the hotel staff were very helpful in accomodating our extra night stay.
“Need improvement”
We had a room facing the railway track and the train starts at 5am in the morning, so it was a bit noisy and shaky when the train drove pass the hotel, but it was bearable for us (we couldn't be bothered to ask to change room). When we looked at the map of the location of the hotel, we didn't realise that it was that close to the railway track, it's literally right next to the railway track. So, make sure you request a room facing the street instead if you want a quieter stay there. Other than that, the location is very good if you're taking day trips to Pompeii and the surrounding areas as the train station is only few mins walk away. Staff were friendly and room was clean and tidy. Would be good if they have a kettle in the room though!
“Close to Piazza Garibaldi, station and buses”
The hotel was great value, friendly and helpful staff, a good location, with a reasonably priced and enjoyable restaurant nearby. There was an evening minibus to and from their city centre hotel near the Castel Nuovo. Recommended.
“Great base for Naples area”
The hotel was located near the train stations, which meant it was a great base for touring the Naples area - particularly Pompeii and the Amalfi coast. The hotel room was small but kept very clean, and the staff were very helpful. Breakfast was additional to the room rate so instead we tried the local cafes, which provided great coffee and a range of breakfasting options. Didn't spend too much time in Naples, which appeared a bit grotty (and the traffic is mad!), but had a great meal at Il Posto Accanto on the front.
“Good location for passing through”
The hotel is good value for money and has everything you need for a short stay in Naples, particularly recommended as a hotel for those passing through who want easy access to transportation. The hotel is located just off the Piazza Garibaldi where there are busses to and from the airport and port as well as trains to the coast. The train station is only a few minutes away, which was our main reason for selecting it. The hotel itself is tucked away from the main Piazza which is dirty and tatty and has a lot of street vendors and people and busses and cars and general noise. Hotel is well signposted from the Piazza and we didn't struggle to find it. Hotel staff spoke English competently and there is a free shuttle to the other hotel in the group which is in the centre of town for those who want to explore a prettier part of Naples. Rooms are of an adequate size and freshly painted with good linen. Mini bar stocked with water (good in summer heat!) and we had a quaint balcony overlooking the street. One negative - although the hotel claims to have room service between set hours, when we called for this during those hours, we were told it was "not possible" with no details given due to language barrier. We only had one meal there outside in the courtyard- a Caprese salad and it was fresh and adequate.
“Decent for a Place to Sleep”
We stayed at the hotel for a one night stay so we could be closer to Pompeii/Ercolano and we were glad to stay only one night. It's tucked in the back of the Station area, which almost makes it seem like a sketchier place to be than the main street. The room was decent, although the bathroom was probably the 5th best out of the 7 hotels/hostels we stayed at on vacation. The air conditioning worked well and there was a fridge to refrigerate our water bottles. The concierge was moderately helpful with directions, but their English was only okay. They didn't seem to be very friendly to tourists, so my impression of the hotel isn't incredibly positive. But to be fair, the condition of the room was exactly what we needed - a bed to sleep on and a hot shower. There was supposed to be a breakfast, but we left the hotel at 6:45 and it still hadn't been set up by then.
