The property was clean out front and very well groomed. I've been in the rooms before both the tower & the historic side. Plumbing needed badly on the historic side and the tower shades are shabby but the beds were extremely comfortable. I was unable to stay because some maid said I was smoking in the room because I was picking up butts in the garden -no ash tray, and putting them in the room garbage can, (I am sure it did stink), and I got put on the do not rent list. Even after I had to change rooms over the plumbing and I heard some people in the room that I left that went through the window, so they were thrown out. So, long story, I won't ever go back because they said I couldn't - over some other peoples bs.

Amazing stay, definitely gives the “Historic” feel as it is a Historic Site. Clean rooms and amazing selection of eating and shopping. Town center is down the street and easy access to freeways. Definitely a place to consider if going to Santa Maria!

Rarely use Expedia but this was a last minute booking. Prices in the area are ludicrous so I opted for the “Historic Hotel” option. It was $25 cheaper on the hotel website on the day of my stay but I booked the night before to ensure I had a room. Appears that I got the absolute worst room in the “historic section” of the hotel and it was like staying in a 1970’s flop house. Sad, dated depressing room with a view that made me feel like I was locked up in a psychiatric ward. I didn’t have the patience at midnight to complain and move my room since it appears they are all furnished with aging beat up colonial chic knockoffs from the local thrift store. Santa Maria leaves little to be desired and the hotel is on a sad strip of 1950’s motels and mid century dilapidated diners. Fork out an extra fifty bucks and stay at the Hilton Garden Inn. Historic hotels don’t always mean luxury unless you are booking a Bonvoy Autograph Collection. Great location for American Horror Story.

A little more cleaning in the rooms would make it to a Five star hoyel.
