Beautiful historic neighborhood
We appreciated the prompt and professional communication throughout. The first floor room where we stayed was clean and tidy, with its own en suite toilet and shower. The bed was very comfortable, and the faux fireplace heater did a great job of heating up the whole room. The room was smaller than appears in the website pictures. The rest of the house was cluttered because of construction work being done but that’s temporary. We took advantage of and enjoyed the neat pamphlet available for a historic neighborhood walking tour. All around a wonderful stay on the edge of Japantown San Jose. Thank you!

I used to live in this neighborhood and it was so great being back. It is far enough out of downtown to not have too much noise but close enough to walk or grab the light rail to get to anything you need. Room was great and wish my trip had been longer to enjoy it more!

One of the best places I ever stayed in!
Very cosy. A place is like co-living with 6 units with all the amenities inside the unit. And there’s a huge common area where you can chill, eat, hang out. All the necessary things like towels, shampoo etc. where present (except toothpaste). There were a lot of browny candies everywhere and the whole place was decorated for christmas. Huge TVs also in place - one in the unit, another in common area. It was a bit cold inside but electronic battery fixed that issue.

After a 6 hour drive up from LA, the luxe tub and shower were worth the whole price of admission. The room was so beautiful with matching recliners, we opted to stay in. The little kitchenette provided space to make a small nosh.The bottle of wine and serene surroundings made a casual evening of recuperation and conversation feel better than any restaurant. Thank you.

I usually stay in hotels whenever I travel the Bay Area, which I do very often. But this time, I tried this place, and I loved the place. It was charming and yet comfortable in a historic neighborhood. It was well stocked and has all the amenities you would expect. Will try again.

Great stay!
This is a beautiful home in a really nice historic neighborhood. Our room and the common areas were beautifully appointed. We had room # 1 and it was almost perfect. It was so comfortable and has wonderful furnishings. Disappointed though that there was no coffee maker in this room (had to go to the kitchen which was fine), had only 1 washcloth and no where to put toiletries in the 1/2 bath. Would have loved to have comfy chairs on the front porch to sit and enjoy. The gazebo in the backyard was nice to relax in, but wasn't super clean. Overall we had a wonderful stay and wished we had more time to really enjoy it. Don't think twice, book it!

This property is gorgeous. Staying here is an indulgence in grand luxury with a distinctive style. However, we do have a few complaints. Many amenities were missing. There was no hair dryer, and the clothes steamer box was in the closet, but it contained no steamer. Washcloths we're not provided. The Keurig coffee maker in the lobby barley worked, spitting out half a cup of tepid, pale coffee. The full sized refrigerator and freezer did not have real cream. Only powdered creamer was available. These are nit picks to be sure, but for the price, we were expecting the amenities to be as advertised.

Three nights in San Jose
The property was enchanting, its wonderful architecture and its lush history we found just great! My fiance's sister and her daughter loved their room as well. We were in town for my fiance's younger daughter's wedding in Los Gatos at Nestldown which was also amazing. We just couldn't get over how incredibly fortunate we were to have found this magical place and not just staying at another motel somewhere. I would highly recommend staying at The Hensley House to anyone visiting San Jose!!

When we arrived, the codes we were given the morning of our stay did not work. I had to text the owner who had changed the codes. Second, the parking we were promised was not available due to "issues" but were not told that until we arrived. Third, the property was being worked on starting at 8:00 AM every day we were there. What we thought would be a pleasant and relaxing stary was not! We did enjoy the shower and the bed was comfortable as were the other amenities. I would not book again.

Beautiful but dirty
Maybe the prettiest VRBO ever, but upkeep is sadly lacking. Dust everywhere, filthy kitchen (went out and bought our own glasses and coffee maker and dish cloths). Had to find a light bulb from elsewhere so we could see in the bathroom. Location was great for our needs. They sent us the wrong code to get in the door so it took us nearly 30 minutes to get in. Then we came back from our conference one evening to find lumber and a felled tree branch blocking access to the back door. Very strange. Would recommend if they can get it together.

Beautiful restored Victorian home
Room we stayed in, and entire house, is simply gorgeous. From the restored furniture to the stained glass windows. Good location not far from downtown, Japan Town shops/restaurants and highway access. Surrounding neighborhood safety/cleanliness looked questionable, but this quiet and charming street was full of historic, well-maintained homes. FYI, like many Victorian homes that have been chopped up into separate apartments or rent-by-the-room, the layout was a bit odd: the toilet and sink are in a separate room from the shower and bathtub. Inconvenient but we worked around it.

We wanted to love this house. We have never booked something like this before. We did not realize this was a shared house. There are 7 rooms total. We did not receive any information on how to enter the property. After we emailed 15 minutes after check in, we did get a response giving us codes to get in. The email also stated that we were not able to flush toilet paper at all. This, as one could imagine, was not enjoyable at all. Had we known this prior, we would not have booked. There were old food items left in the cupboards from other occupants. The large comforter had pen stains on it, which made us wonder if anything had been washed. We were not able to get the fireplace to turn on. The light to the room with the toilet and sink did not work. The house looked very different out front than the picture here shows. There was no place to sit outside, which is one of the things that drew us most to the property. We were very disappointed as this was something we had booked 5 months prior and were excited to relax in a beautiful place. The bed was comfortable and the tub/shower were beautiful.

The Henley House
The house was I'm sure charming in its day. We were able to book through VRBO as usual with ease. The house is run down, needing attention. Amenities were lacking, we were not able to find any forks, ate spaghetti with a spoon Out back there was no place to sit and enjoy, gazebo was dirty and had plants and dirt on the table. The common kitchen was not stocked as maybe it should have been. Our room was nice, again... dust bunnies, no utensils, no toaster although we did find toaster oven in the common kitchen. Not sure where all the remotes actually went to. Im thinking with some help of a cleaning crew and a crew to repair things all would be great ! When arriving we saw a beautiful house.. then we opened our eyes. Please please please hire new cleaning people and repair crew. You have a gem !

Hensley House Unit 1 review
Overall the stay was fine if you didn’t need much. The location was great and I felt safe. I really liked parking my car in the backyard. In previous pictures the house used to be gorgeous, light and airy. Now it is cluttered and dark. Everything is basically unusable and the home is really unkept. There is garbage and random shoes everywhere. I feel like someone let us stay in their backyard house that they never clean. The unit was kind of cool, but there was no where to get ready. There was no plug in the bathroom with the toilet and the only plug was above the toilet so there is no where to use a hair dryer, curling iron etc. they threw together a makeshift kitchen in this unit that was filthy and the cabinets were completely broken. The coffee cups had grime on them you could feel with your fingertips. The house has so much potential and the price was great. The windows were taped shut so we couldn’t get fresh air and the front room was so packed with furniture that was so old and smelly it looked like it was from goodwill. It’s sad to see such an important, historical home rotting away.

Lovely room for a downtown stay in San Jose
We enjoyed the historic home with beautiful antiques and excellent king sized bed. Lobby was stunning for photographs. Kitchen in room nice but no spatulas, etc; only plastic cutlery and knives so bring if you plan to cook. Great location close to everything downtown.

Unit 1 of this Historic & Beautiful Hensley House was absolutely amazing. We had a real late check-in but it was real easy to access the home and our room. The bed may have been the most comfortable bed I've ever laid upon in my life, what kind of cloudy pillow top is this?? The room was gorgeous with all the old aesthetics. The wash room with the spacious tub and separate shower which featured a multitude of shower heads and features was excellent. In the morning we were able to explore the property more which is very welcoming and open to its guests. Our only wish was that we had more time to wonder around and check out the gorgeous property. Thank you for hosting us!

Amazing experience
I came across this house on the Internet and wanted to come and live there. Mandy's service takes great care of me. If I need anything, she will answer me as soon as possible. First of all, the bedding. I am a person who attaches great importance to the comfort of the bed. The bed in this room makes me fall asleep immediately, so I appreciate her dedication to the bedding. All the furniture, including some small appliances, made me feel very intelligent. What interests me most is the layout of her house. I like some antique furniture, and as far as I know, every piece of furniture is chosen by Mandy herself, which is in line with my personal aesthetic.
