Der Haupteingang ist nur durch eine enge Drehtür zugänglich, die für Hunde und Koffer ungeeignet ist. Frühstück mit Hund ist nur in der Bar möglich, aber sehr lecker.

Gefallen hat mir, das es ein großes Zimmer war mit vielen Fenstern. Eine Zumutung war die Matratze im Himmelbett ebenfalls war dieses für zwei Personen sehr schmal. Das gesamte Gebäude einschließlich der Zimmer hatte Renovierungsstau. Das Frühstück war in Ordnung.

Typisches englisches altes Nobelhotel
Vor 100 Jahren wsr das evtl mal sehr elegant. Heute ist es der leider ofr anzutreffende Muff in England. Einrichtung, Sanitäranlagen, und selbst das Personsl versetzen den Gast in die Zeit William Sheckeltons zurück, der hier vor seiner Reise zum Südpol genächtigt hat.

Älteres Hotel mit Charme, leider laut
Unsere Zimmer waren zur Strasse und waren sehr laut. Morgens startete der Bus dorekt unter unserem Fenster und liess den Motor 15 Min. laufen, bis zur Abfahrt. Leider waren die Fenster ziemlich alt, also wenig lärmgedämmt und klemmten beim Öffnen und Schliessen. Das Zimmer selbst ebenso wie das Bad war sehr geräumig, das Bad neu und sehr schön mit Badewanne und Dusche (!). Das Zimmer schon etwas älter.

Nie wieder!
Dieses Hotel hat seine besten Zeiten seit vielen Jahren hinter sich! Alles ist alt und schmuddlig! Der Linoleum (!) -Boden im Badezimmer war gerissen, die Fenster undicht und die Farbe blätterte ab. Die Betten durchgelegen! Wir sind nach zwei Tagen frühzeitig abgereist und haben uns ein schlnes Hotel gesucht!

Zimmer an der Hauptstraße sind durch den Straßenlärm auch nachts recht laut (uns hat es jetzt persönlich nicht gestört). Das Personal an der Rezeption, im Restaurant und auch die Putzkräfte waren sehr freundlich und stets gut gelaunt. Das Gebäude an sich ist schon sehr in die Jahre gekommen. Dieses merkt man vor allem auf den Fluren, da riecht es etwas muffig.Unser Zimmer war sehr groß und sehr sauber.Das Frühstück war auch o. k. Das Peis-Leitungsverhältnis war in Ordnung. Wir waren insgesamt gut zufrieden und würden dieses Hotel wieder buchen.

On booking out we were not asked if we enjoyed our stay as was the person following us. We had to pay for parking in the hotel carpark the receptionist did not advise us to go back in the lift to the first floor we asked another member of staff how we got onto the carpark. The room however was very spacious

The Duke is an absolutely stunning building but it needs serious investment. All looking a bit tired. The staff were lovely, the location perfect and our stay overall was fine.

Staff were very welcoming and attentive throughout our stay. The room was large and comfortable however the mattress was quite uncomfortable and the pillows weren’t the comfiest even after requesting an additional 2. Great breakfast and value as it was included in our room rate. Great location, easy to access town and local sights

I booked a single room for 2 nights and was allocated room 105. My first impressions of the hotel were quite good as it is a beautiful old building, however the room was not great. The window frame was rotten and a constant breeze blew through as the weather outside was foul, the net curtain was half the width of the window and the curtains were old and different lengths. The bed was OK and also the bathroom. Although there was a kettle, the tea bags, milk and sugar were not topped up, so not much use on the second day. Breakfast was very limited. No fresh fruit or yoghurts were available throughout my stay and limited pastries and cereal selection. So some things were OK, but plenty of room for improvement.

This is not a brand new hotel but a building with character. Great value for money, a good choice at breakfast, attentive staff. Clean, warm and hospitable and a convient location for before and after events at the pavilions.

Bit dated in decor, room was small and basic. But for one night it was fine. Breakfast was over priced. Staff were lovely. If you just need a place to crash, or expecting a fancy hotel then it’s ideal.

January 24, one night at the Duke
We only planned to stay one night but given the age of the building and style it was quite impressive. Excellent front desk service. However, in some places it is showing its age and is in need of fresh painting. Some carpets are also antique. Parking at rear is adequate but condition of rear of hotel lets it down a bit. I dont like the 1st come first served parking, you should be able to book in advance especially comming from 3.5 hours away and no local knowledge.
