Sauberes Hotel mit sehr netten Personal. Aber die Zimmer und die Austattung sind etwas in die Jahre gekommen. Trotzdem zu empfehlen.

Gut gedacht, nicht gut gemacht...
Auf den ersten Blick ein charmantes altes Hotel aus dem 19. Jahrhundert. Optisch ein echter Hingucker. Leider ist es sehr staubig (Möbel, Jalousien, Sessel) und schlecht renoviert (Bohrlöcher in Fliesen, Decke und der Dreck der letzten Renovierung hängt noch an den Fließen und in der Badewanne). Das Essen war günstig und etwa in der Qualität einer guten Kantine. Frühstück gibt es nicht (Bistro öffnet erst um 10h bzw. 12h) aber man bekommt beim Check-In einen gratis Kaffee, wenn man dort frühstückt (?!?). Bei unserer Abreise waren alle Türen verschlossen, die Rezeption war so gut wie nie besetzt.

Unmöglich, nur steile Straßen
Es ist eine Schande, dass Hotel.de dieses Hotel auf einer Web-site so anbietet, ohne darauf hinzuweisen, dass es nur über recht steile Straßen zu erreichen ist. Nie mehr würde ich es buchen. Was nutzt mir die Nähe zum Strand, wenn auch dieser ca. 50 bis 100 m tiefer liegt und man ohne bergmännisch geübt zu sein, diesen nicht erklimmen kann oder auch nicht will.

Great location, good pub below, friendly staff who were very accommodating to our late arrival. No noise from the pub below, comfy bed and great shower. Bathroom window didn't open, but that's me being picky. Would recommend.

As an alternative to the "normal" practice of staying in hotels, motels, and Airbnb's, we absolutely loved staying in an old, traditional venue like the Grand Hotel Newcastle. Yes, the wall paint is peeling in places and yes the stairs are squeaky and a little dusty but it all added to the atmosphere of vintage photographs and dark timber. The room was huge, the beds were comfortable, the linen was clean and plentiful and the overall ambiance was fantastic. We thought we'd just have a beer at the public bar and then head out to eat but the menu looked too good to miss. Both meals were dressed-up versions of pub standards and were both cooked to perfection. Great value for money and the chance to stay somewhere a little out of the ordinary. Will definitely stay again.

Beautiful old hotel. Will stay again.
Beautiful, old historic hotel, built in 1891 and retains many of its original features. Our room, Room 7, was renovated and very large and comfortable. The balcony wrapped round to give great views around the streets. Comfortable king bed. Reasonably priced dining options downstairs. Handy to Newcastle Beach. Street parking was available.

The hotel was conveniently placed in the city and walking distance to the beach and cafes. I got a very nice dinner in their restaurant and liked it up on the top floor where it was quiet and peaceful. Very good value budget hotel. I would stay here again.

I was honestly impressed by the room. For the price you can definitely do a lot worse. The clean room, bed, fridge (with freezer), TV (with accessible HDMI ports), aircon, and bathtub were much appreciated. If you're driving to The Grand Hotel, make sure you factor in about $35-42 per night for parking at the nearby secure parking lot. The building itself is quite old. The hallway floors creak, paint is flaking on hallways walls, that sort of thing. However, the owners have done well to modernise the rooms themselves. I wish I'd been able to experience the bar and bistro, but they weren't available on Christmas day. I can recommend The Grand Hotel for a short stay.

All the staff were really helpful and friendly. The bed was super comfy, and we loved the "rain"-style shower. The food at the pub downstairs was excellent! The only thing that was a bit of a turnoff is the sliding barndoor for the bathroom, as it leaves about a 1" gap all around the edge. Not a lot of privacy!

Il n'y a pas d'ascenseur et le check-in se fait au bar. La chambre sentait le moisi et certaines zones sur la moquette étaient humides. Il y avait des trous dans le plafond (à cause de l'humidité) et de petites particules tombaient sur le lit. Nous avons trouvé des cheveux dans le frigo ainsi qu'une bouteille d'eau entamée. La salle de bain a été récemment refaite, cependant la propreté n'était que partiellement au rendez-vous. Les fenêtres étaient très sales (côté extérieur) et les rideaux présentaient des tâches marron. Il y avait également des fissures contre les murs. Cependant, le lit semblait propre. Cela semble surréaliste que cet hôtel ait 4 étoiles, et même 3 étoiles seraient limite exagérées. C'est un motel médiocre...

This property & city was like stepping back in time and we absolutely loved it. We wouldn't hesitate to come & stay again :) The room was lovely, though the shower rack had a lot of previous soap scum on it and around the base of the toilet was a touch yukky. The bathroom power point is very loose so it felt unsafe to use. The windows were dirty...it would have been nicer to be able to see out them. Other than that, it is a very unique & beautiful property we felt very comfortable in. Many thank yous :)

The staff were lovely and very helpful. The hotel has the old world charm and is quite beautiful. There was quite a bit of dust that needs to be dealt with, and we found the sink semi blocked, and the mini fridge needs a good clean inside. But overall was a great stay. Likely would stay again!

We have stayed at the Grand Hotel twice now and it is a superb accommodation for a central location a quick stroll to the beautiful beach and headland at the end of the street. Staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly and the bar and restaurant below are so convenient with a great atmosphere and tasty well price meals. We love its mix of old world and modern charm with our room looking out onto a balcony.

very old grand hotel. Lots of wood and elegance. comfy bed though needed a desk and old style rooms dont have them. Shower bath was adequate. Staff were friendly and excellent. Food was very good. Felt safe with courthouse and cop shop over the road. Expensive street parking was a negative.
