The hotel has it's own charme, directly located at the Cathedral, nicely polished up (since our last visit in 2007), offers very friendly service. The slightly complicated distribution of rooms is owed to the old historic building. No direct car parking in the vicinity, but unloading an loading possible. We sure will come back

A lovely small hotel in the very center of Canterbury. It is an old, cozy building very well maintained, spotlessly clean and the owners are extremely hospitable. Breakfast included. Beds comfortable and it was quiet, everything was more than I expected and I'd definitively recommend staying there.

Kleines Hotel neben der Kathedrale
Kleines Hotel in fast antikem Haus, mit Charme, sehr sauber. Auf unserer Etage Toilette und 2 Duschräume auf dem Flur, auch sauber und neu. Die Zimmer klein und niedrig, aber sauber, funktionell, bequemes Bett. Unsere Zimmeraussicht auf die Kathedrale war der Hammer. Kontinentales Frühstück war gut, man hätte auch englisches Frühstück gegen Aufpreis bestellen können. Preis/Leistungsverhältnis bei der Stadtlage war total ok. Eine Reihe von Pubs, Restaurants und alle möglichen Shops sind fußläufig in einigen Minuten zu erreichen.

Gute Lage, aber Toilette und Dusche im Flur
Lage Wir hatten dieses Hotel für seine Lage ausgesucht und die ist auch direkt an der Kathedrale und mitten in der Innenstadt perfekt für fußläufige Erkundungen. Das Hotel Das Gebäude ist alt sind verschachtelt, die Treppen haben eine geringe Tiefe und an einer Stelle bekommt man kaum seinen Koffer durch den Flur gezogen, weil ein tragender Pfeiler im Weg ist. Die Zimmer Die Zimmer sind typisch ausgestattet, aber zumindest auf unsere Etage gab es Toiletten und Duschen nur separat im Flur. - Die Dusche braucht auch sehr lange, um warm zu werden. Parken An der Rezeption bekommt man eine vergünstigte Parkmarke, wodurch man auf den öffentlichen Parkplätzen nur 6£ für 24 Stunden bezahlt (ansonsten 1.80 £ pro Stunde). Mitarbeiter/Problemlösung Die Mitarbeiter sind sehr freundlich und bemüht, alle Probleme zu lösen, emails werden prompt und ausführlichst beantwortet. Frühstück Das kontinentale Frühstück (Toast, Joghurt, Obstsalat und Müsli mit Kaffee oder Tee werden am Zisch serviert) war gut, English Breakfast hätte einen Aufpreis von 7 £ 50 gekostet. Besonders hervorzuheben ist der hervorragende kleine Obstsalat mit frisch geschnittenem Obst, Blaubeeren und Erdbeeren im April. Preis/Leistung Für 89 £ etwas teuer: Für denselben Preis bekommt man z.B. im Falstaff einen kostenlosen Parkplatz und Dusche und Toilette en suite. Im Gesamteindruck wegen des Preises und der separaten Duschen und Toiletten 3 Sterne.

Ein historisches Hotel, direkt am Eingang der Kathedrale gelegen mit einem besonderem Flair. Freundlichem und zuvorkommenden Service, und Hilfe mit dem Gepäck durch die Treppen. Gutes Frühstück mit frischem Fruchtsalat.

You’ll never have a more higgledy piggeldy experience with a hotel than this one. But oh how it’s worth it! The buildings were built in perhaps the 1200’s, so the floors are very uneven. The rooms and baths are comfortable, the porridge for breakfast delicious and the location unbeatable. The staff couldn’t be more helpful. In short we loved it.

The Cathedral Gate Hotel is older than the West Gate leading into the Canterbury Cathedral! It's old, and proudly displays its age. Anyone staying there must want to enter into the atmosphere is medieval Canterbury, and enjoy the experience of crossing from building to building on the rooftop, and being right smack in the middle of the ancient city.

We love this hotel and came back to stay here again. The staff, quirky rooms and great breakfast are all a real plus. Unfortunately we were given a room at the front of the hotel and the Friday night revellers kept up a steady stream of noise, shouting etc until 4am. Needless to say, if you're going to stay here ask for a room at the back.

We loved the quirky nature of the hotel. The age of the property meant there was a distinct slope to the floors- but for one night it was fine. Strange to have to walk across a rooftop to get to the bedrooms - another quirk. Canterbury is a lovely city and we certainly would come again. We recommend The Foundry as a place to have a drink and also The Cooks Tale for a modern twist on Indian food.

Comfortable clean rooms in a very central location. One room overlooking the cathedral was quite small but nevertheless good value for money. The larger room was also warm, comfortable and clean. Staff were friendly and Continental breakfast was set us up for the day. We would certainly return.

A wonderful stay in a hotel built in the 1400s
This is one of the most unique places I have ever stayed. Certainly one of the oldest hotels I’ve ever had the pleasure of staying in. Wonderfully quirky, centuries-old, neatly appointed and looking out over a wonderful city square and shops on a cobblestone street. Built into the gate of the magnificent Canterbury Cathedral. We were fortunate enough to have a room that looked directly out over the cathedral itself. Staff was wonderful and accommodating. Monica in particular was a pleasure and was extremely cheerful and conversational. Breakfast looking out over the square was quite nice. Highly recommended!

Lovely stay right in the middle of Canterbury. Difficult to find but everybody in the Hotel were excellent. I think it was Rob who recommended some excellent restaurants for evening meals. Breakfast was lovely - we had the full English, rooms very clean and well presented.

Lovely inn, great location
we really enjoyed the night that we stayed a Cathedral in Gate. Location is perfect if you want to do a quick visit through Canterbury. We loved the out door terrace area. Staff was super friendly. Rooms were very clean
