I had an excellent time at this hotel! I got there on their opening day, and the staff treated me like a rock star the whole time. Absolutely loved the service, the restaurant (Collage), the comfy library with plush sofas and great books, the outdoor bar -- just lovely and visually pleasing. I just can't say enough about how personable, friendly, professional and helpful everyone was.
The location just of Karangahape Road was pretty central and quite interesting, offering lots of food options from backpacker grease-bomb to fine French dining. The CBD and harbour are walking distance, or you can catch the bus right up Queen Street or grab one of the ubiquitous Beam scooters (my favorite).
My one area of less than complete delight was the room decor. It was spotless and brand new, and had a kitchenette, table, and small sofa, so all that was awesome. But the choice for decor was not my style at all -- very dark blue, black and brown walls and fixtures, so it felt like being in a black box. I liked the industrial chic idea, but SO DARK, OMG. The room was also a little cramped, but for the price I can't complain. I felt like I couldn't take my partner there when he met me in AKL later because of the dark, claustrophobic vibe. (I was solo on my first swing through the city.) At least put some bright art on the walls or something, please!
Overall, very solid value, fantastic service, funky neighborhood near the center of things, and comfortable, well-designed public spaces.
