Description

Uncover the beauty, luxury, and elegance of Smith Tower, the oldest skyscraper in Seattle. Go for a ride on one of its retro Otis lifts, peek “behind the curtain” during Prohibition times, and take in stunning 360-degree views of the city from the observation deck.

Begin your journey through time at ground level Observatory Check-in. Continue on towards the top of the tower, stopping along the way to explore some of the stories and moments that have made Smith Tower a beloved Seattle gem. This interactive, self-guided tour takes you all the way back to 1916, when Seattleites were forced to come to terms with early Prohibition as well as new technology that would soon transform their city.

Linger as long as you'd like in the exhibits until you want to head to the 35th floor, formerly known as the Chinese Room, the Smith Tower Observatory is a sight to behold. Step out of the lifts into fetching details like 17th-century art panels and a hard carved wood ceiling—and of course, the wrap-around, open-air platform. Head outside to take in panoramic views of Puget Sound, Pike Place Market, and straight down 2nd Avenue to the Space Needle.

The Observatory is also home to a speakeasy-style Observatory Bar. With an intriguing menu featuring Prohibition and Asian influences, the bar pays homage to the tower's rum-running roots and Chinese Room history.
