Description

Tall craggy peaks reflect on the surface of glassy blue lakes in the idyllic Salzkammergut region. Stroll the cobbled streets of St. Gilgen and admire the views from St. Wolfgang. Visit the Hüttenstein Castle in Krottensee before arriving at the spectacular Mondsee lake.

Postcard-perfect scenery waits to be discovered outside of Salzburg. The towering peaks of the Alps meet with crystal-clear lakes, whose shores are dotted with enchanting villages. Enjoy the panorama from the comfort of your coach as you drive through Fuschl-am-See on your way to St. Gilgen, birthplace of Mozart’s mother.

Continue to St. Wolfgang, an old market town and charming holiday resort. Soak up the relaxed atmosphere in the pretty alleys and visit the local church famous for its 15th-century altar. Hop on a scenic cruise on Wolfgangsee in the summer months, or enjoy a traditional pastry and coffee in a local establishment during chillier seasons.

Travel on to Hüttenstein Castle, hidden among lush greenery on the shores of Krottensee lake, then stop at Mondsee, which was featured in The Sound of Music film. This is the perfect spot to take holiday snaps of some breathtaking vistas.

Although lovely scenery in the drive there overall a bit of a disappointment. Firstly if you have a walki disability it will be hard to get on and of the coach and also St Wolfgangsee is a bit slopey maki it difficult eslec if you are to keep up at the fast pace. Our guide was a complete let down! It appeared to many that he was obviously tired and probably had to much to drink day before. He qas bored and really couldn't be bothered to talk much other than basic essentials. Also we were only given 45 minutes in St Wolfgangsee and 25 minutes in St Gilgen. The rest of the time was spent in the coach. I would save your money and take the local bus from Salzburg up to St Wolfgangsee to spend the time.

Driver, tour guide, bus, and sights were excellent! Good balance of total time on the bus vs. time to walk around, and the longest we spent on the bus was about 45 min which worked for the kids nicely. The only downside was mild confusion about how to redeem the e-vouchers for the tour--booked with Salzburg Sightseeing Tours via Expedia's app, all Expedia instructions direct check-in to pick up tickets with Salzburg Sightseeing Tours ticket booth, but check-in and the tour itself actually happened across the street with Panorama Tours. The Expedia instructions should be updated to reflect this cooperative arrangement between the two companies, and the Salzburg Sightseeing Tours ticket booth attendant was less than helpful in explaining why we were checking-in for their tour with a different company...
