Description

Step into the pages of a Bavarian storybook as you venture to the fairytale castles of Neuschwanstein and Linderhof Palace. Discover the magic of these royal estates, dreamed up by reclusive King Ludwig II, as you admire the architecture that inspired Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Hop on board a comfortable, air-conditioned bus in Munich and set off into the German countryside. Arrive at Linderhof Palace, a spectacular Rococo estate set amid manicured formal gardens and fountains. Inspired by Versailles, this gem-like castle features its own Hall of Mirrors. Hear about King Ludwig's visions of grandeur, and why this castle was the only one the “Swan King” ever saw completed.

Continue on to the town of Oberammergau, a jewel-box village perched in the Bavarian Alps. Stop to shop, stroll, and grab a bite to eat if you'd like before the drive to Neuschwanstein Castle. This incredible Romanesque Revival palace balances high atop a rugged hill, on the former ruins of 2 mediaeval castles. Spend a full 4 hours at the castle, where King Ludwig imagined himself living out his luxurious version of a Middle Ages lifestyle, before beginning the journey back to Munich.

You’re given 3.5 hours at Neuschwanstein Castle. We thought that was plenty of time to grab a meal (45 minutes) and also do the Castle. We quickly found out that we were rushed. You need at least 5 hours to really enjoy your time. We were running everywhere. The bus and carriage rides take FOREVER!! just walk it!

The tour guide and grey line tours itself was excellent. Tour guide was so extensive in knowledge. Was an absolute delight listening to her. The castle tours weren’t as good as expected though (these are run by the castle organisations rather than grey line), Linderhoff had a lot of construction going on, right in front of the castle. And the Neuchwanstein tour within the castle was very rushed (the tours through the castle are scheduled for every 5 minutes and they don’t explain things in detail either).
