Description

Discover the darker side of London as you learn about the terrors, mysteries and shocks that rippled through the city during the time of Jack the Ripper. Experience legends and ghostly myths as well as gruesome true-life stories of public hangings and torture from times gone by as you explore by bus and on foot.

Hop on board a vintage open-top bus to begin your journey through the darkened streets of London. Pass by ominous Tower Hill, where executioners once worked before bloodthirsty crowds. See the Old Bailey, the site of numerous public hangings, and the Wallace Plaque, where William Wallace was tortured. Drive past the site of Mrs. Lovett's pie shop and the barbershop behind the urban legend of the demon barber Sweeney Todd.

Leave the bus behind and set off behind your guide on foot, travelling down cobbled lanes to reach the deserted Smithfield Market. As you roam, listen for the scratching sounds of Fanny Lynes—the Cock Lane ghost—and hear about the exploits of London's most infamous body snatchers. As you move into the East End—a hotbed of crime in the 19th century—follow the paths trodden by Jack the Ripper himself, who stalked and murdered 5 victims in his mysterious 1888 reign of terror. Walk in his footsteps, inspecting the murder sites and deciphering the evidence.

Finally, gather in the warmth of The Sherlock Holmes pub for a nightcap. Check out a wide collection of the investigator's memorabilia, and consider staying on for a drink or a bite to eat.

Our tour guide was great. Can’t remember his name, but he was from Scotland. Very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Great tour around London.

I thought the information was good but Magnus did a poor job at delivering it to the crowd. Not only that he bounced around a lot within the information. This might have led someone who doesn't know a lot about Jack the Ripper to get lost. I think if he memorized the information or stayed on track. The tour would have been better over all. Plus, I found out that other Jack the Ripper tours went to all five murder locations. I do need to say that Magnus did know a lot about the case of Jack the Ripper which was a plus. I also have done a bit of research into Jack the Ripper. I was very excited about the tour then was let down by the way it was delivered.
