What you can expect

Take a journey through a frozen maze of towering ice formations, jagged ridges, and deep blue crevasses. Led by a certified, English-speaking guide, experience the surreal beauty of Iceland’s Sólheimajökull glacier as you hike through the rugged terrain and climb a wall of ice.

Arrive at the meeting location or, if you prefer, arrange for return transport from your Reykjavik hotel. Suit up in your hiking gear and head out to explore. Learn how Sólheimajökull is actually an outlet of a larger glacier named Mýrdalsjökull, a phenomenal feat of nature with icecap covering an active volcano.

Immerse yourself in the labyrinth-like glacier, which is riddled with crevasses, cracks, and sinkholes. Once you reach an ice wall, you have the opportunity for even more adventure with an introduction to ice climbing. Your guide provides you with all the tools you need—ice axes, crampons, helmets, and more—to ensure your climb is as safe as can be. Make your way to the top of this sheer vertical wall, stopping to breathe in the crisp air and heavenly views from above.

Finish your tour with a stop at Skógarfoss, one of the country’s most dramatic waterfalls. Climb the stairs to the top of its nearly 200 feet (60 m), looking down at the cascading water below. After taking part in one of the most exhilarating activities in Iceland, enjoy your relaxing trip back to Reykjavik.
