Erst wollte ich nur ein paar Tage bleiben, aber aufgrund einer Veranstaltung und da ich mich in desem Hotel so wohlgefühlt habe, habe ich meinen Aufenthalt bis auf eine Woche verlängert. Danach wurde meine Rückreise mehrfach storniert, so dass ich noch weitere vier Tage bleiben musste. Alle im Hotel waren so freundlich und hilfsbereit, dass sie mir richtig ans Herz gewachsen sind. Ich habe mich dort wie zu Hause gefühlt und werde ganz sicher wiederkommen. Das Hotel selbst ist einfach gemütlich und bietet alles, was man braucht. Das Stadtzentrum ist schnell zu Fuß erreichbar und direkt vor dem Hotel ist eine Bushaltestelle, wenn man weitere Ausflüge unternehmen möchte. Ich danke von ganzem Herzen Manager James, Eliot, Meghan (ich hoffe, ich habe eure Namen richtig geschrieben?) Und der netten Dame, die sich um das Frühstück, die Zimmer und vieles andere kümmert. Hotel in schönem alten Herrenhaus
Die Lage ist ok, Fußläufig erreicht man das Stadtzentrum in gut 10 min. Das Haus selbst ist sehr schön, alles ordentlich renoviert und den Charme behalten. Unser Kingzimmer war für englische Verhältnisse sehr groß, das Bett recht bequem. Als Manko empfanden wir, dass das Bad lediglich eine Badewanne hatte, in der man nicht duschen konnte (waschen im Sitzen). Außerdem gabs am Waschbecken keine Mischbatterie (sondern zwei Wasserhähne). Frühstück war ok, etwas wenig Auswahl vielleicht und nichts typisch engliches (Salami & Schnittkäse, gekochte Eier, Cereals). Das Personal war durchwegs freundlich. Mit 120 Euro pro Nacht meiner Meinung nach eher etwas zu teuer.

Eine lustige historische Tatsache; Zwei Wasserhähne sind in Großbritannien sehr traditionell und befinden sich in vielen britischen Gebäuden. Diese Tradition begann in den 60er Jahren, als unser Wasser an zwei Orten gelagert wurde, was zwei separate Rohre benötigte und um Benutzern mit Sehbehinderung zu helfen. Also die 2 Hähne, links heiß, rechts kalt. Entschuldigen Sie eventuelle Übersetzungsfehler. Wir freuen uns auf Ihren nächsten Besuch! Hotel VARA-Team

Die Zimmer entsprechen in keiner Art und Weise den Fotos im Internet. Das Bett war mit 190cm zu kurz, ein Zimmerwechsel war möglich und verbesserte die Situation. Die Badezimmer sind winzig. Die Lage des Hotels ist gut.

Wir waren 3 Nächte im Hotel. Das Zimmer Nr. 11 war sehr klein. Nur ein Dachfenster zum öffnen. Keine Klimaanlage. Nur kleines ein Bild an der Wand. Keine Vorhänge. Das Zimmer wirkte sehr kalt. Wir würden max. 2 Sterne vergeben. Das Frühstück wurde in der Hotelbar serviert. Am Vorhaben haben Gäste Ihr essen in der Microwelle gewärmt und es "stank" danach fürterlioch nach Indischem fastfood. Für ein 4 Sterne Hotel total überbewertet und zu teuer. Nicht empfehlenswert. Wenn doch....höchstens eine Nacht wenn nirgends in der Gegend etwas frei ist.

You had booked our Cosy Double rooms, which do mean "Cosy" as in size therefore we can only apologise if this information was not clear on the website you booked, which do also list the other larger rooms we have avaliable here. We are graded as a 4* Guest Accommodation, not as a Hotel as we do not have a restaurant on site, our prices are very reasonable for the area of Truro, being thr City of Cornwall and again apoligise if you do not feel your stay was of good value. Charming Hotel ideally located to explore Cornwall
The Merchant House in Truro is ideally located to explore Cornwall. Easy to reach, close to the City Centre, but still in a calm and quit area. Facilities are offering enough CCTV guarded outdoor parking space and free WiFi. Rooms and facilities are clean and the staff is very friendly, prepared to go the extra mile, providing kind of a family atmosphere. The breakfast is good choice and quality, also for Continental visitors. On the downside, the rooms are rather small and due to the age of the amneties, they are all different in size and layout, allthough they are very clean and have been refurbished to rather up to date standards. You can be lucky to get a reasonably sized room and bed (i.e. room 15), or you might end up in a 12 square metres room (i.e. 19), where you can hardly walk around the bed. There are no clothes cupboards in the "Cosy double bedrooms" and the beds are a bit narrow, covered with a single large duvet for two.

We are delighted to hear you received our traditional warm and friendly service from all of the team and you enjoyed the relaxed family atmosphere. As you mentioned the Hotel has had a recent refurbishment and still ongoing in some areas, all of the rooms are of different size and layout, including the Cosy Double rooms, due to the layout of the building some are slightly bigger than others, then as you mentioned we have our King rooms, we also have our super king room and the Merchant House Suite. The beds in our Cosy Double rooms are all standard UK double beds at 5ft 6 and all of our King rooms have Super-king 6ft Beds. For clients arriving by foot from the train it’s a long slog up the hill. Also I don’t think there’s a lift. Otherwise nice hotel, well run with modern decor.

Cornwall is one of the more hillier counties; there is a trick to actually only walk one hill, then it is a nice easy down hill journey to the hotel on foot. There is no lift in the original building and because of its listing grade we cannot instal one. The most flights of stairs a guest would ever need to take is 2, and our team are always at hand to help with luggage. We look forward to seeing you again on your next visit to Truro! We loved this hotel. While renovation of the entire property is ongoing, and we did turn down an upgrade to I suspect a newly renovated room, we found our Room #20 to be snug, quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and provided sufficient variety with the option for cooked to order dishes. The breakfast space was lovely. We had dinner in on our second night and thoroughly enjoyed sitting by the fire eating our delicious pizzas.

Lovely hotel. I had sudden trip to Truro to visit a family member in hospital and the staff were just…nice people. I particularly appreciated them being around to check me in even though I arrived on a late train.

Staff were lovely but the room wasn't as nice as the pictures. Only one towel and mug and the room was boiling as the radiator was on max. Also the pots set out for the jam at breakfast had what looked like tartar sauce in them.

Actually we were disappointed, we have been heavily overcharged for the services offered. (i) No shower arrangements only hair wash facility & bath, no soap/shower gel provided (ii) Bathroom was not suitable for family use, very limited space to put toiletries and hang towels (iii) the ceiling over the bath was too low, we banged our heads a couple of times coming out of the bath (iii) No hot breakfast provided (iv) same breakfast every day, main items cheese/salami slices, bread & croissants & cereals The accommodation didn't worth £150/day, we should be compensated

We are also very surprised by this, as none of this was brought to our attention during your stay. This is a massive shame as a few of your "hiccups" could have addressed during your stay. Please allow us to address the points you have raised:Price: You have joined us during Cornwall's peak holiday season. Cornwall is one of the busiest holiday locations in the UK, with our pricing being competitive to our fellow hotel in the area.Shower: When you had booked, you had the option to request a room with a shower. We did not receive one. You had also booked our Family room, which has traditionally come with a bath so we can accommodate our infant aged guests.Bathroom layout: We are sorry to hear you missed the designated towel railing behind the bathroom door.The ceiling: The hotel is in a 1800's original building. Due to the buildings listing we cannot make any major architectural changes. However we have had a variety of guests use this room since our new ownership 2 years ago and this is the first we have heard of "...banged heads...".Hot breakfast: We are sorry to hear that you did not read our breakfast menu as you would have seen our available hot dishes like our: toasted bagels with smoked salmon pate, toasted sweet berry waffles and etc.Same Breakfast: We offer a scandi-style continental breakfast with a varied buffet of food and ingredients. The only real restrictions is the guest's imagination. Now allow us to raise some points that we experienced during your stay: As mentioned above, you did not approach any of our team member during you stay which would helped improve your experience.You also failed to mention that our team (especially our breakfast team) gave you friendly local advice/knowledge of what to do in the area; like the Bodmin steam railway and the like.This has really caught us off guard because during your stay: you were all so complimentary to our team. Even giving a heartfelt thank you on your departure which included a hug. Overall the request for a "compensation", would be declined by any business in hospitality. Unfortunately you have done the equivalent of going to a restaurant, eat a 3 course meal, having a great time with the staff...then returning a week later and saying you did not enjoy your meal.Now that you know this: We encourage you to come stay with us again on your next visit, armed with your new found knowledge; as we are sure to beat your previous experience's score. Room was clean, and free on-site parking is available. Not much choice on the menu, but Truro centre is only a few minutes walk away. Hosts and bar-staff were very friendly.

Most excellent service - highly recommended.
The owners Tim & Hazel have done some great things with this hotel over the last couple of years and have a great 10 year plan to make it top notch. Their existing level of personal service is seldom experienced and I thoroughly recommend staying with them if the need arises.

Beautiful hotel, about a 6 minute walk from the centre Truro. Really friendly and welcoming staff at a reasonable price.

Excellent cosy stay in Truro
I stayed here while my partner was in hospital in Truro. It felt like a real home away from home with wonderfully friendly staff. I stayed in a single room which was cozy and comfortable. The breakfast is really yummy with high quality ingredients. I would absolutely stay again.
