Beautiful grounds, great food, the chef is very passionate. The hot tubs were very comfortable but the pool water was too chilly for us, not many people used it because of the low water temperature. Also,we stayed in an attached room and could hear every conversation the neighbors had. Overall however we had a pleasant experience.

Chef Benedict at the restaurant is the best. Will cook whatever you want and is a breath of fresh air. Staff is great place is clean. Close to the waterfall.

Had a great rip o la fortuna and the hotel stay was good. The breakfast was good and the rooms were far enough away from town but close enough that it was good. The only downfall from the hotel was the beds were very uncomfortable and hard.

It was ok
The hotel was really nice. The personal were also very helpful and friendly. There is nothing to put your clothes in the room one desk with two drawers and smalls. Food pretty bad. A little far from the center.

Lugar muy tranquilo.. buenas habitaciones.. parqueo pequeño pero justo para la cantidad de habitaciones.. todo el lugar muy bonito.. lo único es que la piscina es muy muy pequeña y no invita a utilizarse más bien parece una fuente decorativa. personal muy amable. restaurante bonito y buen desayuno. a menos de 1 kilómetro del centro de la fortuna recomendable tener vehículo

Do yourself a favor and pass this place by.
Beautiful grounds, but that was the end of it. Rooms felt like prison cells. No decoration and one ultra white LED light in the ceiling. Had to use the TV for lighting with the overhead light off. Beds uncomfortable. ~15 seconds of hot water in the shower. They argued with us over and over that there was hot water. Demonstrated it in a faucet outside. I explained that we weren't showering under the faucet outside! Restaurant was only operating at breakfast. To get a beer, you had to go to the front desk, and follow them to the restaurant to retrieve your beer. Asked for extra towels and they charged us for them.

Con gusto!
I really have no complaints about the hotel. Our driver was on time and provided us transport from the airport to the hotel. They allowed us to check in about 4-5 hours early (which was very much appreciated after a loooong flight). Staff was extremely nice and attentive! We had a difficult time finding the breakfast location, and a staff member gladly gave us a ride to show up (about 10 minutes walking, nice scenic walk though). Staff went out of their way to help us get cabs and transportation (staff even drove us into town once and refused payment for it, we still tipped him though!) Staff also assisted us with booking tours. We heard that the hotel is in the process of adding a restuarant and bar, all the more reason to come back! Las Orquideas made our stay in La Fortuna an unforgettable one!!!! Gracias por todo! Pura Vida!

Great room for the price. The gardens were lovely and the location was quiet. The staff was friendly and knowledgable; their English was so good, I stopped trying to speak Spanish. A very short drive to the waterfall and a bit further to town. Very doable location if you have a car. We especially enjoyed the breakfast offered for an extra fee 200m up the road at an organic farm.

Muchas gracias por su crítica doña Silvia. Le comento que el inconveniente con el aire acondicionado fue un hecho aislado en medio de la tarde noche de un dia domingo, sin embargo se hizo la reparación de la unidad tan pronto como fue posible. En cuanto a los supra mencionados "buggs", le comento que contamos con un programa de fumigación mensual el cual nos evita este tipo de problemas, recalco que nuestros colchones son de fabricación alemana, casi recién comprados. En cuanto a la compensación por el incidente del aire acondicionado, que usted muy amablemente exigió; le puedo recordar que continúa disponible una noche complementaria, para que haga uso de ella el dia de su agrado previa reservacion. Agradecemos su retroalimentación y estamos para servirle.

If you're traveling on a budget, this is a good, clean pick. The room was spacious and clean with AC. It's a few minutes drive to the heart of town, and, please remember that Costa Rica roads are tricky to walk on for foreigners. Unfortunately, the address posted on Orbitz is not correct, and Waze and Google maps didn't help. Fortunately, everyone we've encountered in Costa Rica has been amazing and helpful, so we were back on our path in no time. (Google maps now has the address correct.)

This room can sleep 4. There is 1 little towel hook in bathroom. No facecloths & only 1 hand towel. Towels are of cheapest quality. No screens on windows. We opened 1 window about 4" & immediately 7 big beetles flew in, so 'forced' to close windows & use A/C. Only cold water in the shower. No toilet paper holder-had to put on sink where it got wet. No bedside lamp only a glaring bare lightbulb from the ceiling. No chairs in room. Had to sit on bed. Asked where to best see frogs and butterflies. Were advised to buy ticket to a lodge they obviously (in retrospect) had some kind of referral deal with. We get there and are told No frogs. We get to the butterfly garden and counted 4 species. A nice place but a waste of time and $$ for us. Beautiful grounds & landscaping. Sent us to organic farm up the road for breakfast...it was great.

We loved our stay at Las Orquideas. Wonderful service from the moment we arrived through check out. Our cabin was perfect - even better than expected. Housekeeping kept it clean each day and she was great. Also has an amazing garden, very peaceful and relaxing. I would recommend to anyone and everyone! Will stay here again when visiting Fortuna!

stay at Orquideas
Las Orquideas was a great place. Just about a km away from town - we walked back and forth all the time. In a nice quiet area and with the ability to go for walks all around. They also have good access to cheap taxis so good idea to go with their taxis. You can find an excellent roadside small canteen where Dona Maria makes really lovely food - it's just about a 4 minute along the main road when you walk out of the hotel and go Right on the main road (located beside a travel tours place).

Best and most affordable hotel in LA Fortuna
Las Orquideas is amazing. They have a few properties in Costa Rica but I personally believe this one in La FORTUNA is the best. The grounds, flowers, incredibly unique palm trees are exquisite. You always have someone to help you, especially if you really want a pizza delivered (amazing, by the way). Hotel is right next door to a "everything excursion" tourism place and within walking distance to the grocery store and the main downtown. Rooms are huge, modern and VERY clean. You have so many options based on the needs of your party. Individual cabins, apartment style, larger cabins, secluded or more exposed, bear the entrance or way in the back away from it all. Highly recommended!!!

Disappointing and not as advertised.
Looks like this property is experiencing teething pains. I see similar comments in other reviews. First, we did not get the room we booked (a two bedroom) and there was no reduction in the price. We did get a call to warn us of the change, but it was too late to do anything about it. Could be a ploy to draw in guests with no actual availability of the two-bedroom unit. There was no hot water due to an electrical problem, and no-one answering the phone to report the problem to. There was no seating in the room aside from the beds, including on the balcony. The available pool was very small, the size of a large whirlpool tub, though the photos make it look much larger. The 100% Egyptian cotton bedding turned out to be 100% microfibre of unknown origin. There were also termites living in the wooden headboards, depositing sawdust regularly. There is no restaurant on the property. The available breakfast is more than 1/2 kilometer away, and was very basic. I would recommend finding breakfast elsewhere. The grounds were lovely and the beds hard but comfortable. The TV reception was poor. We were disappointed overall. For the price at over $200 per night, there are numerous nicer properties normally available. This was a last minute booking over Christmas period, with few choices available.

Great value. Amazing staff. Great location.
This gem of a hotel is at a five minutes drive to downtown La Fortuna. and it is close to all the main attractions: La Fortuna Rio Waterfall, Chocolate tour, Ecoglide zipline, Baldi Hot Springs, etc. The hotel has beautiful grounds and it is very peaceful. However, its most valuable asset is its staff. Laura and Gustavo go way out f their way to make sure everything is perfect with your stay with immediate attention and with a smile.. Laura is especially knowledgeable about most local tours and activities in La Fortuna and is able to quickly arrange bookings and tours. So glad we stayed at Las Orquideas. We felt as we stayed with family..

A bit far from La Fortuna but cheap taxi is always available. We visited Baldi Spa Resort and back to our hotel just fine. Rooms were clean and cozy except some faucet/water problems but management fixed it quick. WIFIsignal was OK just ask the front desk.

I had booked another hotel in La Fortuna for 3 days. After the first night I wasn't pleased and booked into Hotel Las Orquideas for the 2 remaining days. What a delightful experience. The grounds are beautiful and meticulously maintained. It was one of the safest places I stayed while traveling around Costa Rica. Would definitely stay there again!
