A little out of the way but well worth it
We stayed one night but wished for more. The rooms are lovely and very comfortable, large, high ceilinged, basically a series of duplex cabins arranged the central reception and dining facility. It's a thoughtfully designed property. The restaurant is open to the air and up on the second floor where it catches the breeze. From the restaurant are nice views of Sigiriya off in the distance. The food was excellent. The chef, who showed an owner's attention to detail, has a lovely manner. Despite lots of water features on the grounds, most planted with lilies, we were not bothered by mosquitos at all--and if they were around we'd know. The staff was friendly and highly responsive any time of day or night. The route we followed to get there from Sigiriya was a crazy bumpy, dirt pot holed road. But it was more than worth it (and it's really not that far). Was everything perfect? no. As others have commented it's new and the plantings have not grown in yet. We found it quite attractive though and as things grow up it will have a more lush and established feel. The hot tub is big,nice for two but the hot water comes from a point of use heater and so it took about 45 minutes to fill the tub--plan ahead. All in all we highly recommend it.

The most amazing and thoughtful staff!!! They knew it was my birthday from my passport info and arranged a really sweet surprise, petals on the bed, cake, and a card signed by all the staff...what more can a girl ask for? Unforgettable experience here...we didn’t want to leave! Room was beautiful, facilities were pretty, and restaurant food was great!! Best hotel by far out of all the hotels from our two week trip around all of Sri Lanka!!!

Excessive service charge imposed at restaurant
The hot tub in the hotel room was nice but our stay at Seerock was marred by the excessive service charge of more than 30% imposed on us for dinner at the hotel restaurant. The calculation and size of the service charge was not made clear as the handwritten bill was not presented after dinner and only given hastily for payment during check out. I am surprised that a hotel like Seerock would resort to this kind of tactics to overcharge their guests. No other restaurant during our stay in Sri Lanka charged so much just for service charge.

Dear Guest, (Nanaka Yoneda ) Thank you for your review on your stay at The King's Domain. I have read your review and would like to rectify and explain the reasons for your billing. Firstly the Services Charges and Taxes equalling ( 30.28 % ) is clearly stated on the menu prior to ordering. Secondly the your bill was presented to you after dinner, which you have signed and is reflected in your signature at the bottom ( please refer to your attached bill copy ) Absolutely no guest bills are accepted by our accounts department without a guests signature confirming they have partook and consumed extras during their stay. While it is indicative that the services charge was for a certain amount it is in fact inclusive of MANDATORY government taxes ( VAT / TDL / NBT + SERVICE CHARGE for a total of 30.28% ) of your bill. Even during your booking process from Expedia these taxes have also been specified under 'Daily Taxes'. While many restaurants don't charge taxes and you may encountered quite a few during your stay in Sri Lanka, note that they may not pay taxes for many reasons legal or otherwise. I can only speak for my hotel, that we charge taxes, ( which are clearly stated at every Point of Sale starting from booking ) because we need to pay them to the government. It is indeed a shame that this minor misunderstanding spoiled your stay but I am here to assure you that at no time were you cheated, misinformed or did the hotel play tactics to overcharge you our valued guests. As for the bill not being presented post dinner, it just cannot be, because as stated above your signature is clearly on it and it is hotel policy not to process bills without a guests signature. Trust the above is self explanatory and it solves some of the issues. I thank you again for your stay and look forward to welcoming you back again in the future. Happy Holidays.

Hotel rooms were excellent and very roomy. Very comfortable beds. Nice and quiet. Staff were very attentive and polite and really look after the guests. Only downside is the distance from town.
