A great hotel just a short walk from the centre, although we did use the shuttle service as it was extremely cold. Food was excellent both in the lounge and the restaurant. All staff we're friendly and very helpful. We hope to return to Iceland again!

Great, comfortable hotel

Vorzüge: The staff were always friendly and are happy to answer all your questions! There is also a bar with a relatively reasonable happy hour everyday!
Minus: There was building work on our floor which was noisy - especially after a long day travelling!
Ort: Would be perfect if it was just 10mins closer to town.
The Grand is one of the biggest hotels in Reykjavik. It's about 25min walk from the centre of town or a 5-10minute cab journey. The staff in the hotel need to be credited massively - so happy to help in anyway they can and always offer extras where applicable. Also have great taste in restaurants to recommend! The place itself is true to the name - very grand. It's a very busy hotel which a lot of people moving in and out all hours of the day.

Fantastic stay

Vorzüge: everything
Minus: a bath in the room
Ort: in the city centre you have lots of shops and cathedral up on the hill to visit if you wish too. I found a Christmas shop so purchased a decoration.
hotel was everything you could wish for. Breakfast was a choice of hot full English or fruit, yogurts, pastries etc.. I didn't go for the shot glass of cod liver oil or the raw fish but that was my choice and you may prefer that first thing in the morning. We ate in the hotel for the five nights we stayed as it was too cold to go out searching for a place to eat and we went out on full day trips so were glad to relax. The northern lights trip we went on was a little disappointing as I expected to see lots of dancing green and ink and silvery swirls just like in the pictures on the leaflets. We saw a white cloud like mass and a slightly green strip. After half an hour of standing in the cold wind/icy -4 temperatures it was time to get on the bus thank goodness. Even though we were wrapped up with jumpers, coats, snoods, gloves, and anything else we had it was icy and the biting winds went right through your clothing, so be aware if your taking this trip. It was a two hour drive and right on the south coast which had lighthouse therefore you weren't in complete darkness all the time. The one thing we were glad of was a café that sold hot drinks and cake if you wanted to warm u, a bit of a queue as you can imagine as around 15/20 coaches at the same viewing spot got very busy. The guides kept coming into the café to tell us if the lights changed, upon going to view them I wondered what all the excitement was. Maybe I expected too much, I don't know? But yes ive seen them.

Right on the coast. Easy to find

Vorzüge: Has a nice spa and gym. Close to the centre of Reykjavik. Ample free parking. Easy checking in.
Minus: Hotel should work with Expedia so you get rooms you choose when booking.
I booked two rooms for me my husband and two daughters. I requested rooms next to each other and informed the hotel that we would be checking in late. I requested one with a king size bed and one twin. They emailed back to say late check in was fine and the request had been noted. However, when we arrived late afternoon, we were allocated two rooms right over the lobby and both had twin beds. When we queried this, we were told the hotel was full. I said I'd chosen the rooms on Expedia but it didn't matter. So, me and my husband had single beds for the duration. Rooms were uncomfortably hot so we had to open the window, which made or noisy. Also, because we were on the main road at the front of the hotel, it was a bit noisy at night with people being dropped off in coaches etc. Nice hotel though. Reception staff are. Very helpful and courteous. Rooms are nice.

Great hotel with a wonderful gourmet breakfast. Staff was always smiling and courteous. The lobby was spectacular, with gas fireplaces , leather furniture and water falls. The rooms were simple and comfortable. Loved the heated bathroom floor and of course lots of hot water.

A lovely hotel, with outstanding staff!

Vorzüge: Please see above comments.
Ort:
My friends and I stayed at the Grand Hotel 15-19/02/15 and had a lovely time. The hotel's lobby is very attractive and modern with its stained-glass windows and cosy seating areas which give a welcoming feel. The rooms are very good; clean and well maintained. The hotel breakfast is, as previous reviews have stated, excellent and the variety of foods on offer is sure to please everyone. We also ate several meals in the lobby area and they were both very good and reasonably priced; certainly comparable to other restaurants outside. The most outstanding feature of this hotel however, is the staff- they really cannot do enough for you. Everyone we came in contact with, from the reception staff to the restaurant and bar staff, were friendly and knowledgeable and would gladly help with any query (from the quickest way to get into Reykjavik, to which cocktails to try :)). We would just like to mention one member of staff, 'Shekhar,' who works at the lobby bar/restaurant area. He was so lovely and helpful and above all, courteous- loved him! Like all who visit Iceland, we really wanted to see the Northern Lights, but were unlucky this time. However, we're already considering a return visit next year and will have every intention of staying at the Grand Hotel again. I would recommend it to anyone- enjoy!
